Jessica and Son — He Turned Over from His Back to His Tummy

Those first few days are the best!

I met Jessica and her son during the Portrait Project, where I'd set up a table and invited passersby to sit for a quick interview and a portrait (done later in the studio). I asked her to tell a story. She told me about how her son had just learned how to roll over from his back to his front and how excited and proud she and her husband were.

I remember my first child and the pride at every milestone passed. I wanted to capture this in my drawing. Jessica is making funny noises here and behind me, her husband is doing the same. The boy has just learned how to smile and taught his parents how to make it happen. I love to capture this type of intimacy.
